Steelcase Showcases New Architecture, Furniture and Technology Products That Help People Work Better at NeoCon 2024

Company also announces its net-zero carbon emission reduction targets and transition plan.

Grand Rapids, Mich., June 10, 2024 – This week at NeoCon, Steelcase, a global design, research and thought leader in the world of work, and its community of brands are showcasing a broad range of new solutions, ideas and insights that help people have better experiences at work through spaces that promote wellbeing and engagement.

According to recent global Steelcase research, which included surveys of nearly 6,000 people in 11 countries, workers report their work-life balance has continued to drop from 2021 to 2023. Nearly half do not find their work interesting or engaging and don’t have the health and energy they need, which may contribute to mental health concerns. However, the workplace has an impact on various aspects of wellbeing and Steelcase research found that improving the office influences engagement levels.

“While leaders have ranked employee wellbeing as a top priority coming out of the pandemic, employees aren’t feeling it just yet – especially as previous work norms have been upended,” said Allan Smith, president, Americas and chief product officer. “To change this trajectory, leaders have the opportunity to make meaningful changes within the workplace that boost engagement, productivity and retention. Our showrooms at NeoCon this year illustrate how workers’ physical, cognitive and emotional wellbeing can be addressed while they’re at work, which is where they spend the majority of their day. We even think it’s possible that we can create more joyful, happier places to work.”

New Products
Rooted in insights from Steelcase research, the company’s showrooms feature a variety of products and spaces designed to support the different types of work people and teams perform throughout the day, whether they’re working in traditional office settings of any size, healthcare facilities or classrooms. The solutions address the need for better connections, increased privacy and high-performance ancillary spaces, including the latest offerings:

  • Ocular® Collection expansion – The Ocular Collection now offers a range of products designed to create experiences that are more engaging, equitable and empowering in the hybrid workplace and help people collaborate. The collection now includes Ocular View and Sightline Tables. Ocular View is a one-to-one extended-reality experience, originally a concept co-developed with Logitech called “Project Ghost,” that blurs the lines between the physical and digital to create more human and immersive connections. Sightline Tables are elongated and specifically shaped tables designed for better, more equitable hybrid meeting experiences for all participants.
  • Orangebox® Campers & Dens™ – Campers & Dens was designed to create layers of privacy that support the many ways people connect in the workplace. From fully enclosed, semi-enclosed to open spaces, Campers & Dens delivers layers of privacy through campers, cabins and awnings; and flexibility and choice thanks to its wide range of configurations and aesthetic choices.
  • Frank Lloyd Wright Rockford and Galesburg Collections by Steelcase – These new interpretations of fine, modern furniture for the home and workplace are inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s midcentury Usonian ideals and shaped by the architect’s progressive vision of great design for everyone.
  • Coalesse Ensemble™ – A fluid, modular lounge system that naturally brings people together — combining intuitive performance features such as an adjustable back, integrated power and privacy with infinite design expression, to let you create gathering places that really work and stay engaged in a reclined posture.

Our Path to Net Zero
At NeoCon this year, the organization also announced its commitment to a net-zero future with the release of the industry’s first net-zero transition plan. The organization is working to reduce its carbon emissions over 90%* throughout its entire value chain by 2050, with a focus on its products, operations and transportation.

This commitment builds on the organization’s science-based targets to cut emissions in half in its own operations by 2030. The new net-zero targets along with the near-term 2030 targets have been validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), the leading authority guiding businesses on how much and how quickly they need to reduce carbon emissions to reduce the impact of climate change. You can learn more about this commitment in the net-zero press release and the net-zero transition plan.
